Oh life, bitter-sweet life

Oh Life, Bittersweet Life

“You don’t mean that.” Her voice was raspy from the cold night air that surrounded us. I knew she was on the verge of crying.

“I’m sorry.” Was all I managed to say. I shifted my position on the porch steps where we sat in order for me to be facing her directly. The full moon above us cast an intriguing light upon her figure, capturing my attention.

No Longer

No longer need for light
No lack of day
Blindness gone away
No longer night

Sun sent it’s blinding rays
Night took its last climb
Washed in warm love sublime
Joy filled days

Rainbow is the promise sign
Bask in crisp glow
The Loved no longer below
All saints align

“I don’t like the feel of these woods,” Darcy said offhandedly.

She said it more to cut the tension than anything, because they were walking along, single file and silent, between foreboding trees laced with dark moss that made what light could struggle through very dim. Darien rolled his eyes at her, because they had walked far worse paths before without flinching, but Miaela gave her a grateful look for saying what they were all thinking.

“It’s not far now,” Morgan told them defensively.

“Good morning, Martha,” I called out to the girl as I passed her in the hallway.

“Good morning, Elizabeth,” my friend answered. “How are you?”

“Doing well. And you?”

“Just fine, although we’re quite busy finishing everything before Master’s return.”

Can't Get Enough of You

What do I do, when I simply feel
Like I can’t make it myself,
I need help, and I know You’re real,
When that deep yearning I know I felt.

My soul searches and strains
To deeply feel, and know
To see beyond the pain
That Your love to me You would show.

But then what do I do, when I’m filled
With great joy and life,
When Your goodness shines
Above all doubt and strife?

When sincerely I see
That You are everything,
Evry’thing I’ll ever need,
And I’m under Your wings.

Once upon a time, fairies roamed the land side by side with humans, the only obvious difference the flecks of changing color in their eyes.

That was a very long time ago now.

Once upon a more recent time, there was a brother and sister. Their names were Darien and Darcy, and they traveled the land, having adventures and rescuing people and generally having a good time. Generally.

They wore contacts that made their eyes dark blue.

Four months later, I received a new job. “The Mistress needs a new personal servant to help her,” Martha explained. “Serah says you’ll do just fine, now that you know our language well enough.”

“Me?” I asked nervously. “But I’ve never done anything like it before. What if I do something wrong?”

“Tirzah—she’s another servant—will teach you until you are ready,” Martha answered. “Just do what you’re told and you’ll learn quickly.”

“But I’m only eight.”

“Mistress said she wants a young girl,” Martha explained impatiently.

“Why?”

Chapter 2 A Sudden Case
Despite the fact that it is a natural part of life, it is always a horrific shock when one comes across death. Even for Tom, who had spent some part of his life pursuing murders, felt the sinister chill of the crime. It was soon followed by sudden panic as he realized he would be the number one suspect.
