The True Meaning of Easter

Author's Note:

Hello my fellow homeschoolers and friends! After a very long unintended hiatus, I have returned to AP! I certainly missed writing for this site and I hope to not spend so much time away from it again! My life has taken quite a few crazy turns in the past few years, but I have also been mightily blessed! I finally graduated from college (again!) and have been working quite a bit. I am sorry to those who had to wait so long for me to post something. I have had a bit of a poetry drought during these past few years, but I hope that is ended now!

Resurrect

“He hasn’t woken. Please, Lord, he still hasn’t woken.”
Martha watched her sister lace long, taut fingers together and press them to her lips. To Martha, it seemed unreal. Between the two, her sister had always been serene. Now her throat constricted visibly as if she was choking. And Martha, the worrywart, laid her hand on her sister’s arm. Goosebumps covered her coffee-colored skin. “Have you called Joshua?”
{{“Have you called Joshua?” Martha called from the bathroom, wringing her black hair out in front of the mirror.
“Yep, just did! He said he’s on his way.”

Until the End of Time

I am the voice of the wind through the barren trees
I am the cry of the motherless child
I am the silence that rises at night
I am the hope of the young

I know despair that chokes out the night
I know pain that overwhelms your mind
I know yearning that cannot be satisfied
I know joy that can never be described

I've been lost in darkness
I've been bathed in light
I have fought the battle
that alone you need not be

Jesus Knew Redux

 Jesus Knew Redux

(Psalm 22 on the right, response on the left. Style inspired by many poems of Kestrel.)

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

Of course You knew

You still begged

O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest

Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel

Is it enough that Your Father knows?

In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them

Unrequited Love

Submitted by Kyleigh on Thu, 03/27/2008 - 12:40

Unrequited Love
Unrequited love,
Nailed upon a tree.
Broken hands,
Holding me.

Unrequited love,
A traitor to His law,
Deserving death for disobedience,
His forgiving what He saw.

Unrequited love,
Nailed upon a tree.
Fading lungs,
Giving breath to me.

Unrequited love,
Wrapped up in a sheet.
Arms drawing me,
To dance to a different beat.

Unrequited love,
Sealed into a grave.
Eyes boring into mine,
Daring me to be brave.

And the Lie is Sold

The four Roman soldiers hesitated at the door.
“They’ll never believe us,” one said.
“What choice have we?” asked the second.
“None,” said the leader, in a decided voice. “We shall tell the Chief Priests everything, just as it happened. It is our duty. After that, the matter is out of our hands.”
No less anxious, the others agreed.
A servant came to the door, in answer to their knock. Bent over, with an old face and a white beard, he squinted up at them. “What do you want?” he asked.
