It started with folding clothes.

My mother enlisted my brothers to help, and after a small lesson on the proper folding of shirts, they were off. We stood around, quietly working, our eyes occasionally flashing to the episode of Supernanny that was playing.

My brother was handed one of my shirts-- an Orange Crush, vintage-y looking thing. He held it up. "Oh my gosh. Look how small this is compared to all our clothes!"

I laughed. "It's an XL. It's not small."

"It's an XL? That's disgusting!"

My mom told him to please keep folding, and he did.

Words and ideas and characters are flowing - not flowing, but racing - through my head and I can't stop them. I don't want to. I want to be sad for all the ideas that I'll forget by tomorrow but I don't have time - I just have to get them down, don't stop, don't breathe, they'll be gone if you even blink.

1. The Hunger
I was starving when you found me
Maybe that’s why I ate with such ferocity
Lapped you up with my eyes
Savored every bite with my heart
You let me in for a while
Then you made me spit you out
You knew it wasn’t right
And, in my hungry little soul
I knew that you knew best
