~~ The world is dark and cold, chilling and numbing at the same time. The dark rain clouds cover the sun.
Everything is grey.
The waves lap dully against the the rocks below, with little, if not any sound.
Numb.
have no feeling.I’m stiff, soundless, motionless, emotionless, helpless. The ocean once beautiful, is dull and grey in my eyes. The seagulls are even quiet.
Why?
The question of the century, still unanswered, even after all this time.
Time.

Self-Aware

I have this bracelet that I wear all the time. It's nothing gaudy, or particularly enviable. It's just a string of wooden beads, one larger than the others. The ends of the thread are frayed where it's been knotted together.

There He Was

Author's note: The first and last paragraphs outside the markings (-----) are taken in the present while the rest are flashbacks. :) There he was—standing at the doorway. I raised my head to meet his gaze. When I looked into his chocolate eyes, a picture I had seen before came into my mind. He looked so familiar. Argh, who was he? ------------ Bursting into the living room, I saw my mother and father sitting together. I ran towards them, waving an envelope. “I got it! I got it!” “Got what, Cheryl?” “A letter from Andrew! Remember I sent him, you know, the Settlers of Catan game?

Pain

Submitted by Abigail Naomi … on Tue, 04/09/2013 - 04:06

One step,
One breath,
But none of them are mine.
One word,
One smile,
However cold inside.
Hoping you're not noticed
and yet dreading if you're not,
One tear,
one throb,
Know this,
Pain too shall pass.

The Depth of A Reflection

Grey clouds blanketed the sky. Darker clouds loomed ahead, warning of impending rain. Thunder rumbled faintly in the distance.
A dirt road wound its way through the countryside. Trees lined either side of the well-worn path, offering shelter should it be needed. Autumn had worked its wonders, and the trees were now boasting bright orange and crimson leaves.

Tragedy

September, oh, a month so cruel
When feelings, now in constant duel
The beginning, ever sweet and new
The ending, giving away you.

We met 'Neath the star-crossed skies
Wearing only a disguise
Silently, our feelings led
To tears now cried, hearts now bled

Angels divide four by two,
On one side being me and you
The other pair, lost to time
Memories, and simple rhymes

Selling souls to see a smile
Wasting away all the while
Silly children waste their days
Giving mine for simpl'r ways

Existence

Existence
It's funny, you don't realise you have it
Until someone taps you on the shoulder
And tells you
"You're wonderful."

Existence
Can be like the end of December
Calm and cold, sub-zero temperatures
I can't stand the freezing for much longer
"Don't leave me stranded."

Existence
Is counted in birthdays and anniversaries
We add our own holidays, and create dates
We know how long our earth rotates around the sun
"Is that alright if it's only for a while?"

The Campfire

Submitted by Elizabeth Anne on Fri, 04/05/2013 - 23:39

A flicker,
A glow,
A briefly glinting light.
A spark,
A life,
A burning without shame.

The flicker grows.
The sparks unite.
The glow explodes
And bursts too life.

A flame,
A fire,
A red hot tongue.
A burning,
A growth,
A life that's going on.

The flames expand.
The fire grows tall.
The burning continues
And spread out light.

A flicker,
A glow,
A briefly glinting light.
A spark,
A life,
A burning without shame.
