Feigning Innocence

Submitted by Flying Past Clouds on Mon, 04/14/2014 - 22:11

I'll pretend to know what I'm doing just for a moment, for a chance, I'll fight to keep us alive, fight until my vision is blurred by my own sweat, fight until my hands are raw, fight until my voice is hoarse and every muscle and bone in my body aches, but this beast, this monstrosity, what they think they know they don't truly know, what they think is the best is actually killing me, what they feel is true is merely lies, and I'm screaming and fighting but they are so blinded and infatuated with their own so-called "brilliance" that they cannot see beyond their own nose, they refuse to kno

Me

Submitted by Madeline on Mon, 04/14/2014 - 21:10

I'm imperfection and
Classy grace
I like to turn my head a
Certain way
To evoke a reaction

Standing in a half-dark room
I hope I don't seem like I'm
Latching on; it's far too soon
And a lot of the times I fear my brand of humor
Will rub off the wrong way

I'm sarcastic it's fantastic
I'll think about it later
If I stare too hard it's drastic
Everything I want a guy to be
I keep my eyes half-averted

Swingsets and Fakers

Submitted by E on Sun, 04/13/2014 - 23:52

I. Swingset
Quiet, hush
Don’t say a word
Breathe, push
Bring me a little closer
Swing, rush
Upward toes to the sky
Euphoria in my veins
Staccato creak of the swingset chains
Just enough childhood
To bring a smile to my face.

II. One Step at a Time
I’m releasing the little bits of myself
still attached to you
I’ve been like a willow tree
quiet and unassuming
leaning deep over the grass
but now
I will emerge.

Laugh it Off

Submitted by Madeline on Sun, 04/13/2014 - 03:24

I meant to say it with a laugh
Like a joke
Instead it catches in my eyes
And seizes in my throat
There's a clear film and a redness there
It's evidence so I
Try to breathe through it
I didn't know this bothered me
It's the way we are now
It's not like it's over or anything even close
It'll just take some
Getting used to
I'll nod and laugh it off
And then exploit that realization
Through poetry

Far From Simple

We see them in many different places. Some stand proudly on top of a church. Others hang around a friend’s neck as jewelry. While some mark the burial plots of loved ones who are no longer with us.

As you’ve probably guessed, I’m referring to crosses. The ordinary cross we often times see is simply designed and not much to look at. It seems insignificant, but it’s far from.

Beasts of the Four Kingdoms: Alfrick

Chapter Two

AFTER THE MARKET AND CAD LEAVING EMBER WITH ARIA, the boys went to go visit Alfrick. Alfrick was a dwarf that lived in a small cottage outside the village. Most of the villagers said he was a “crazy hermit” that practiced sorcery and other forms of magic.

But Cad knew better. Back when Cad had first moved in with Beck’s family, he had ran away from their home after, supposedly, speaking to a bird. He’d ran deep, deep into the forest which he had named the Sanctuary.
