Primal Again and other snippets

1. Primal Again

eyes scan
wide space and
I am back

on the savanna
where I hunted
as a cub

my knuckles
in the wet ground
roots poke my

weak peachy flesh
but soon, that human skin
is again calloused paw-pads

I am back,
I am a hunter
again

all fours,
primal, and throw
my head skyward

and I roar
like my father taught me
they know I am coming

they scatter, all of them
as I run, I charge
they are no match

for me
because the cub-me
has grown into

a lion.

2. Remember your mistake

you miss the peppermint
on her breath
and the July sparklers
reflecting off her glassy
brown irises

3. Car Radio

sometimes I
turn off my headlights
and sway
into my darkness
because maybe
it’s better this way
I can gently veer
off this path
and blame it
on faulty equipment.

ERIN. THESE ARE AMAZING. Can I have your autograph?!?!

Primal Again - Oh MY was this good. It's gorgeous, and the language is so rich. It's a poem that reeks of wet earth--it just embodies all the sensations you're describing. I absolutely love the metaphor, and the way you ended brought a huge smile to my face. This is easily among your best work, if not the best you've ever written. Your imagery here is so eloquent and so extremely vivid. It was captivating!

Remember your mistake - Ugh, again, so good that it hurts. This is simple, and lovely, and bittersweet. It's wonderfully composed.

Car Radio - This is musical. It's captivating, and I can see everything you describe so clearly. I've actually been in a car driving with headlights off, and it's equal parts scary and soothing...haha. Kind of an odd combination. But this was wonderful work!

Thanks, y'all!

I haven't posted in an age, you're not alone....

Erin, I LOVE LOVE number two...oh its so short but I can't explain how much I actually liked it!

Car Radio ohhhh....wow.

Primal again...such a different thing coming from you! I think...it seemed like that when I read it! Amazing though, I can't put into words. Its so savage.
