Seperation

I'm feeling those 8,481 miles more than before.
I didn't fully recognize how much I'd miss you
until you had already gotten up and left.
I find myself relaying stories about
all the funny things you've done
I miss your undeniable eccentricity,
nobody can claim that they have a friend like you.
4:40pm Texas time, 3:40am on the "treeless dune of sand".
I wonder if you're sleeping or if you're sitting up, awake,
thinking about coming home or about how your birthday
is tomorrow and you have to spend it in a country that you hate.
But most of all, I wonder if you're safe.
Have there been close calls, or worse?
It dawns on me occasionally that I wouldn't know anything about,
well, let's not talk about that,
it's a possibility that I don't like to entertain for very long.
You have life to live, and I have things to tell you
only two more weeks, and please just come back home.

Written yesterday. I forgot to tell y'all that I got into my 2nd choice college, so I'm pretty excited about that! Still waiting to hear back from the other one. Dear God, I just realized that I have had this up here for quite a while with "here" instead of "hear". Annnddd I'm about to go to college....

I second (or third, I guess) the like button movement! ;) We so need one. Also, Erin, this was really good! Congratulations on getting into your second college as well, AHHH. It must be so exciting!

Nice poem, and congratulations for getting into your 2nd choice!! Maybe you'll hear good news from your 1st. :)

....but if we had a "like" button, there's less chance of getting a comment because it's the faster way of doing things - right?

"It is not the length of life, but the depth of life." Ralph Waldo Emerson

None of this "like" business, although it highly appeals to me as I am so lazy. Comments are worth so much more!

Ah yes, the poem. I really related to it..."until you had already gotten up and left."
I love the tempo of it; so slow and soft and longing, begging. "You have life to live" Oh yes.
And congrats on the college! That's all very exciting :)
