Crucifixion: II. Take and Eat

Submitted by Kyleigh on Sun, 04/01/2012 - 07:12

One last supper they ate together
The disciples not knowing the storm He would weather.
He washes their feet, and warns they’ll fall away,
Though every one claims he shall stay.

He takes the bread, His broken frame
Shattered to claim the Savior-name.
Take; eat, in remembrance of Him
This must be done to save from sin.

His blood of the covenant is in the cup
Poured out His soul to death, soon after they sup,
Spilled for the covenant and forgiveness of sins,
Shedding blood greater than animal skins.

Another cup awaits, in the hand of the LORD,
It is foaming with wine, from His hand will poured,
All the wicked drink it to the dregs,
Fire not quenched, even if for mercy he begs.

It waits with the Father, for the Son to drink,
He cannot from its contents shrink.
To fulfill the prophets, it must be done,
That the Father forsake His righteous Son.

Peter claims he will not fall, but with Jesus he will die.
“I will go to prison and death,” and one day both are nigh.
And yet – before the rooster crows twice.
Peter will deny Him thrice.

“Simon, Simon, behold Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you                           like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when                               you have turned again, strengthen your brothers. Peter said to Him, ‘Lord I                             am ready to go with you to both prison and death.’ Jesus said, ‘I tell you,                                 Peter,’ the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you                               know me.

I was about to ask you when you were going to post this again when I saw it on the front page. I really like it and am glad you shared it.

!There are many things I like about this poem but the first stanza was my favorite because of the uniquely rhymed words! Post more soon :)

Oh and yes, actually, after reading it once more, stanza number four is now  my favorite.

"It is not the length of life, but the depth of life." Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've been feeling strange longings for rhyming poetry. I think my favorite frame was this stanza?

He takes the bread, His broken frame
Shattered so He can claim the Savior-name.
Take; eat, in remembrance of Him
This must be done to save from sin.

But maybe the second line would flow a little better as "Shattered to claim the Savior-name."

I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief

Kyleigh,

That was really good--I read both parts and they were beautiful and awesome! I can't do poetry worth a flip, so it's nice to see someone who can get the right words in and make them rhyme :D Are you going to write more?
