Broken Hearts

Broken
Wandering
Wounded
Hopeless
Unfeeling
we walk this world
Are we dead
or just
asleep?
Lonely footsteps
fall and
echo
across cold
hard
ground,
unheard.
Welcome to a
painful
empty
meaningless
existence.
But in the dark
He’s holding out
welcoming, healing, pitying hands
to our frosty, lonely, searching hearts.

Cry out
in despair
And suddenly
He’s there.
The pain
leaving,
sides
heaving,
hearts
beating,
feet
following the Master’s
healing, loving, leading hands
for wanted, pulsing, waking hearts.

Walking
to Gethsemene
barely dreaming
what will happen.
Night falls
Jesus calls-
But instead,
we’re falling asleep
to the sound
of Jesus weeping
tears of blood.
Waking
is sudden-
Thoughts swirling
Swords twirling
And through the shadow
a loved one
coming.
A kiss-
the most sacred
sign of love-
betraying the Lover
of our souls.
Gamblers taking
his clothes,
the cross
raising
for thirty silvers,
darkness
falling
on the Son
of Light.
Thunder
crashing,
swords
slashing,
God
crying,
Jesus
dying,
And God turns
His face
away.
"It
is
finished!"
Over
Done.
Lives broken,
hearts throbbing,
wrenched in two.
Not
understanding
Our Master’s sacrifice
was for us,
And we are left
alone
again.
Helpless
hopeless
broken
bleeding
are our hearts
even
beating?
unable
to feel,
unable
to heal
And we are left
with
pierced, bloodied, cold dead hands
and broken, bleeding, beating hearts.

And unawares
comes Sunday morning
The cross
falls
The stone
rolls away
Satan screams
the gap
bridged
Our hearts
washed
changed
new!
We
can face
the LORD!
And one day, we’ll see,
One day, we’ll know
His righteous, loving, living hands
wondrous, mighty, All-beautiful hands
merciful, redeeming, saving hands
And in His midst- praising, purified, joyful hearts.

Thank you!

I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief
