I Thirst

Submitted by Clare Marie on Fri, 04/10/2009 - 14:43

I hang stretched upon a naked tree
Pierced hands, pierced feet
Bleeding wounds -oh so many
A crown of thorns upon my head

About me stand my enemies
Laughing and deriding
Mocking me -but how I still love them
I created them each individually

Where is my God?
I am forsaken
Oh! How great are the sins on my soul!

Sins of which I am not guilty
A burden I took out of love

My children! I love thee!
My own! Come back to me!
Ah, how I thirst for souls!

Do you not see how much I love you?
Do you not see all these hurts?
Why, oh why, do you run from me,
When I long to gather you under my wings!

I gave you life -for your life I am dying
You scorn me, you leave me
No, don't turn away...

My children, I love thee...
My own, come back to me...

...I thirst.

I especially appreciate how you've woven lines straight out of Scripture into it.

Brother: Your character should drive a motorcycle.
Me: He can't. He's in the wilderness.
Brother: Then make it a four-wheel-drive motorcycle!

Thanks so much. :)
