Before the Daystar

“From the womb before the daystar I begot you.”
-Psalm 110: 3

Before I was born I was acknowledged;
In the mind of God I dwelt.
He planned my whole life, all that would happen,
And on my angel knees I knelt.

For some say we were angels before humans;
But then how can I tell?
I knew nothing, I remember nothing,
Only God knows what befell.

So then one day I came into being,
And human was now my guise.
Hidden in the womb of my own mother
God looked with love on me, His prize.

Day by day I grew, my body it increased,
Filling my resting place.
All the more wonderful, more beautiful,
Yet only lacking God’s grace.

Then I was born, and God was filled with joy,
For He knew that I could start
Growing in His grace and in love of Him.
I was His special work of art.

The day I was baptized the angels rejoiced,
Exulting in my soul.
I was an innocent child of God
And with His grace was I full.

Too soon did I sin and blackened my soul;
I pierced my God with a thorn.
He forgave me with all His love and grace,
But I knew His heart I had torn.

Again and again this sad scene reoccurred;
Weak is the human race.
Yet still He forgave me with tenderness,
Though the steps of sin I traced.

Now I try to live out His Will for me,
Try with all my soul and heart.
Because I know that before the daystar
I was uniquely set apart.

Yes, I saw your poem, and commented, too...
