Broken Heart

Submitted by Wings of Eternity on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 16:57

Note: This poem was inspired by the song Broken by Lifehouse.

The broken voices, they whisper,

drowning out the sound.

They all strive to remind me,

that you are not around.

The simple answers evade me.

They will not let me know.

Who it is that I am now

if I truly let you go?

How is it that I’m breathing

when I can’t even feel at all?

How can my heart still be beating

after taking such a fall?

It’s you who I let define me,

It’s you that I finally let in,

Yet it’s me who you torn asunder,

It’s me that you shattered within.

Why did I let you control me?

When did you become my air?

How could I live on so little?

While the pain I could hardly bear?

I still don’t know all the answers,

I’m still relearning to live,

I’m trying to get to the point where

I’m not afraid to give.

The healing, it comes slowly.

The lessons, painful and hard,

But with God’s help I know someday,

my heart will cease to be scarred.

That was wonderful. Hm? Shall I ever say anything else? It reminds me of a song I wrote with a chorus that goes like this,

"Without you I'm empty/My eyes have gone cold /My smile seems fake and /My inside's solid gold/Won't let in emotion/Won't let in all faith/They try to ask me/What did he do/Do you you/I can't answer/Lost all hope/I'm broken/I'm broken/I'm broken/Oh/I'm broke."

Sorry, that's kind of a jumbled mess! Ha! :) ©HomeschoolGirl 2010 Song ((hehe))

But yeah--lovely poem!!!!

HomeschoolGirl,

I know it's really sad, but sometimes poetry is supposed to be sad. I actually began writing this poem as extra verses to the song I mentioned :)  That explains it being rather songlike. As for your song, yes it is quite similar! I really like it though! Without knowing what the music sounds like, I can still find a great rhythm! It wasn't jumbled at all! Essentially it is poetry because songs are basically poetry being sung :) Are you musically inclined? (Do you sing/play any instruments?) If so, you should make that song one day! I'd love to eventually hear it :)

I completely agree. Some of my poetry is plain depressing! LOL! But that's what I love about poetry--there's so much you can do with it. It's really expressive. :) Once again, this was wonderful! Sad, but wonderful!

I play the piano/sing for four years. None other instruments, however. How about you? :)

Hey :)  Sorry for the late reply, life got in the way again haha! Sadly, I have never had much time to attempt to play musical instruments. I have attempted a little guitar, synthesizer, and drums. I absoutely love music though. I have a health problem that would makes it somewhat painful to sing, but I try to still sing when I can because I love to :)  I think my voice is not bad and I have been told by people outside my family that I had some natural talent. I can't sing all the time, but I don't let it stop me from singing praise songs when I feel like it :)

Instead of learning music, I have tried alot of art mediums and crafts. I paint (oil, acrylic, and watercolor), sketch, use pen and ink, oil pastels, soft pastels, chalk and charcoal, artistic markers, colored pencils, as well as pottery, crocheting, knitting, cross stitching, plastic canvas, sewing, embroidery, latch hook (rugs), scrapbooking, and of course I write all types of stuff :)

I love to try new things and will be hopefully learning ballroom dancing in a few months. I will have to add more music stuff to the list of things to try to learn more of. I always love to learn and try new things, especially those art/craft types that I feel are dying out.

Are you part of a choir? Do you write a lot of your own songs? Do you take lessons for either piano or singing? I think it is wonderful regardless :)
