This is an excerpt, not the beginning, of my new project Spook Owl. I decided to use the elements of legends, autumn, prophecy, and a solitary bell tower (the fall themes) for a working legend. Much of this information will change, which is why I’m vague sometimes. (This is definitely not my best writing.) Ask me any questions, especially about the proper nouns that don’t make sense.
Here it is, my addition for the fall prompt! I think I managed to get everything in in one way or another, and this is one more in the Victorious series. This and Peace Victorious and the soon-coming Mercy Victorious and being-planned Grace Victorious MAY eventually be expanded. Note the "may" and "eventually."
This is somewhat similar to a short story I wrote a while ago called "Coming Home."
Shadows, shadows, all around,
In the sky and on the ground.
Light has fled on this dark day;
Evil's minions come to play!
Darkness, darkness, in the air;
Stars are hiding, who knows where?
Sun has gone and run away
And we're left with night today!
Weapon, weapon, in my hand,
Let us fight to free this land.
Cleanse the shadows with the light;
Bring back all that's good and right:
Warrior, warrior, come with me,
Let us make this great land free.
A valley:
Dark and deep
And hidden in the vestiges of time;
Reserved in shadows for when time is done
Forbidden, dry and bleak and white,
Beyond the hallows of the ancient sun;
Rest place of the reaper’s blade
Of bones
Jacob’s death
Lies old and silent there
Beneath the ceaseless, sunless light of doom
And cries:
Blood-red and dry and dusty tears
For hope cut off, and perished
Beneath a pogrom’s
Snowy moon
Two shall rise
Above the rest.
In strength, power, and wisdom.
Two shall stand
for what is right,
and shall protect, all else from harm.
Two shall stand,
Two shall rise,
Two shall conquer.
