'Neath Darkened Hood
Knight in home-dwelling, outpost by dark-swelling, fanfares and whispers…
Bears silvered horn, brass bugle grapples belt, heralds and wares…
Head lifted o’er battlements, hidden ‘neath darkened hood, fearless and wary….

The wind howled over the mountain range. Far in the distance a pack of wolves howled at the moon. The silver shadows that played on the snow made the land eerie and mysterious. The dying embers of a campfire glowed from under an overhang.
The twinkling night was cast in the glow of a soft beaming moon. The resting trees were shaded by a dark gloom. A hill stood under the sky which was spread with silver specks in a sea of dark blue. On a dirt path a fire light flickered. The path was carved upon the slope of the grass-covered hill. The fire beamed upon the path, lighting it brightly. Pattering feet scurried up the slope. Children ran; their laughter was constant. An elf sat behind the flames, a slight smile curved upon his shadowed lips.
The sun flashed
Off the blade
Of the sword
In crimson fire
Like foretold blood
The moon glinted
Off the blade
Of the sword
In crystal stars
Like healing rain
The wind whispered
Past the blade
Of the sword
Sighing the tales
Of ancient tears
The main's hands gripped
The strong hilt
Of the sword
Part of the tales
He went to fight
I hope no one thinks that I am copying the other people (like Heather or Lori Ann) who have written stories like this. I wrote this very late at night (about 10:30, to be exact) and my brain was rather fried. I had to keep the story in the visinity of 500 to 600 words and I couldn't write a "normal" fairy-tale about serious things like that so I wrote this instead. I have been hesitant about putting it up, but like I said, I wasn't copying so here it is!!! :)
Wonder of the glowing sunrise
With its golden day breaking horizons
Wonder of the laden dew
With tall green grass and sparkling leaves
Wonder of the sun’s bright light
With rays of gold stream down
Wonder of soft cloudy dawns
With cool wind wisps by
Wonder of the glistening lapping waves
With mermaids swimming tails glittering in sun
Wonder of the wavering sea
With blue depths, the sun rays gleaming through
Wonder of the rising whale
With water he leaps, as he comes from the sea
This is a short story I wrote last year... I don't write tragedy very often, it usually only happens when I feel like writing and I'm sad. :P
