She Held Out Her Heart

Submitted by Libby on Sun, 10/15/2017 - 07:01

She held out her heart
Without hesitation
And lifted it up,
A grand presentation.

I took it from her
I took it so gently
That sweet little gift
To guard it intently.

So pure and so fresh,
I watched it maturing;
The older she grew
Her sweet heart ensuring.

And then came the day
Its sweetness was tainted;
The day that I felt
We were not acquainted.

So mild the change,
I sensed it directly;
Her manner was cold,
I thought so abjectly.

The Heart Cast Aside

I stand and shiver,
it is just the way I live now.
The tide is closing in,
it is drowning my burning heart.

Clouding thoughts,
a foggy life.
I feel like you were a dream,
your intense blue eyes.

Laughs have flown,
my smiles gone.
You wear yours for her alone,
She’s the one you’ve found.

No clarity of any kind.
Like the winds in the cove
you haunt my mind.
You have made me unknown.

My sunny days
now dark and arresting.
Drenched in grey
