Holy Spirit

The Guest of Our Souls

Augustine calls the Holy Spirit “The quiet guest of our soul.”

St. Augustine in his quote beautifully describes the identity of the Holy Spirit. It is this image of guest that I am going to explain in a yet deeper form. I will begin by presenting to you three examples of three guests, for it is as a guest that St. Augustine describes the Holy Spirit. Then I will describe how the Holy Spirit occupies our souls using my three examples.

Listen to the Wind

Listen to the Wind,
Can you hear Him speaking?
What is He saying to you?

Can you understand?

Listen to the Wind,
Is He calling your name
As a gentle breeze?

He is a touch, a caress.

Listen to the Wind,
He sings for you
Sighs with you.

Will you listen, I wonder

Can you hear the Wind?
Do you know what He is saying?
He is calling to you.

A whisper, a stillness.

He cries for you, He calls to you.
He sings for you...died for you.
He knows you, he speaks to you.

Slain

Slain

Shatters of the Conscience,
the broken splintered sort
The creaking moaning anguish,
that froze my barren heart
Why does silence shatter,
the Ice that tasted sweet?
The coldest forms of "Wisdom",
that "wisdom" brought defeat
Warmth erased the selfish lies,
on the thick and lifeless slate
The harmful words of mine,
put on hateful waste
The sinful kind of sadness,
that tastes painfully sweet
Explodes to silent screaming,
of Love that shakes with heat
