General Revelation through Mathematics

You may have sat in many a math class and wondered why. As a child, I would labor over long division, multiplication tables, and algebra, and shake my head at the apparent uselessness of it all. Mathematics seemed not only utterly impractical, but also entirely devoid of anything pertaining to the pursuit of Jesus Christ.

I didn’t enjoy math until I hit algebra. Part of the reason was probably a change in curriculum to one more enjoyable (and comprehensible!) But I also know that doing pages of long division or percentage problems – even if they were put into story form to decipher – were things I just found boring. Algebra was difficult at first. It was such a queer way of thinking I was unaccustomed to. But as time went on, I got the hang of it, and suddenly, math was fascinating.

I have many a subject,
Sometimes I will in vain reject,
The things that they bring up,
Until their time is up.

My first subject is very big,
But not big enough to be a pig.
To give him sensations,
Just give him equations!

Yes, this little man loves math,
One million answers and over he hath.
He won’t even stop for a snack,
When he’s in his answering shack!

My next subject I like,
If he hears “reading” he’s up like a spike!
He doesn’t appreciate reading that’s bad,
Instead it’s to him very sad.
