 But I can't see into him and he turns away to face the open road.

            “Never ye mind. Ye'll tell in yer own time I'm sure. Why do ye think there ain't been a soul here to snatch us all to the queen's delightful company?” It is clear that this conversation is closed for now.

            “Probably because every time any soldiers get near us, they are sent running in terror from Annie and Danielle.” I and Isaias chuckle a bit and then I fall silently into thought.

Korin walks over and knocks on the door. “Hey! We need a new lamp in here!” There is no response. He pounds harder and finally we hear boots clattering on the stone.
“What’s going on in there?” an irritated voice sounds from the other side.
“We need a light. The lamp just went out.” Korin responds. Suddenly, without the sound of anything opening a lock, the door swings open and light spills back into the ink that is our cell. An extremely annoyed face covered in brown beard glares at Korin.

The moment we get back to the cell, the door behind us slams shut and we make our way slowly to the back corner of the stone room. My sister gently and quietly helps me to sit down and lean against the wall. She does not speak. Even when a guard enters carrying a pile of hay which he dumps in the corner opposite us, she doesn’t make a sound. “This is so you can be more comfortable.” He says, “I’m to stay here and make sure that the boy tries to walk.” He looks sad, like he doesn’t really bear us any harm. “I was on your father’s side.
