And There Were Three: Chapter Five

Submitted by Clare Marie on Sat, 08/02/2008 - 23:30

Anomien could not tell what Ficum did. From where she was mounted on her dolphin, it seemed to her that Ficum and the two panthers just stared at one another, looking each other in the eye. They stayed in that manner for quite a while, and then to Anomien’s utter amazement, the panthers bowed their heads slightly, as if in acquiesce, and padded slowly up to the boy’s feet. Once there, they proceeded to gently lick his wounded arm, washing it as only they knew how. Ficum, meanwhile, stroked their sleek fur as a mother caresses her babe.

Lonely

Plastered on the once blue skies,
These drab clouds are rolling by,
I've never seen a sadder day,
Now I'm all alone.

Roses wilting, once so red,
A path of valor, soldiers bled,
Fades into distant memory,
Now I'm all alone.

Long forgotten and packed away,
Pictures of loved ones lost in the fray,
The tears that fall, let them be,
Now I'm all alone.

[[Note: This is my first poetry in awhile. I would like criticism so I can get better, but try not to be too harsh. :)]]

The Code

Submitted by Taylor on Mon, 12/31/2007 - 06:14

Can you see the hunger written on the faces of the people?
They are mute.
They cannot see themselves,
And no one breaks the code of silence.
Let the dead bones lie in their graves.
The gettysburgs, the teaparties in boston, the morning stroll of
the Blacks to lincoln’s shrine—they are over.
Let dead men lie.

“No, no do not wipe away the tears.
We should never have shed them.
We have so much—big houses, sturdy jobs, and families—
Let dead dreams lie.
Do not awaken them.
Do not break the silence.”

Grandpa Bill

I thought I saw you walking next to me, as I stepped upon the Chapel floor
Turns out I was wrong though, for what I saw was only the Chapel door.
I thought I heard your voice behind me, and so I quickly glanced around
But I was wrong once again… and the bare wooden pew was all I found.
I thought I saw your small red car, while we were on our way back home
I was sure I sighted some short grey hair, but I was wrong, and felt alone.

My Father

Submitted by Sarah on Tue, 05/22/2007 - 00:17

My earliest memories are of my Father.

He taught me most of what I know.
Patience, perseverence, kindness, love, compassion.

He also taught me more physical things.
Riding horses, Writing, Reflexology.

I have also learned that death does not end love. My Father passed away in August 2006.

Cherish your Father, you do not realize just how much you love and need somone, until they are gone.

To the Fullest

They say you only live once
So live
Like you’ll never get another chance
Give
Your world true love and romance
And live
To the fullest

They only live once, too
So reach
And touch them when they’re down
Speak
The words to erase the frown
And live
To the fullest

They say a friend is for the tough times
So sigh
And face the world together
Cry
And be comforted forever
And live
To the fullest
