My Six String Beast

I was thrilled when my parents came home on my fifteenth birthday and announced that they had brought home a surprise. I had known what I wanted all summer and now the moment was finally here! Could it be? Yes! My parents opened up the box and my wishes were fulfilled at last. My own, brand new, guitar.

The creature was so cute! It was a new born, too, so it couldn’t stand up on its own. It was the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen! Her eyes looked like slits. I guessed that was due to the fact that she was only a few weeks old.

I brought the little guitar to my room where I was trying to train it. This task was fun at first when she was a baby, but now that she was older, she was growing teeth. Sherona, that was the name I had given her, was turning into quite the wild thing. Whenever I missed a note or hit a wrong string, she would get angry and I would try my best to settle her down, but she wouldn’t listen to me anymore. No matter how much I tried to play with her, she would not cooperate with me!

So one day my guitar teacher, Jorge, asked me to play in a recital for my school. Naturally, I was as shy as a one year old child, and my confidence was severely lacking. That night I practiced Sherona more than ever. I was working so hard, but I still didn’t feel too confident. Sherona started to get annoyed, and one day I even found her trying to sneak out of the house!

On the day of the recital I was feeling about a million butterflies in my stomach. Sherona was no help. She was in an angry mood right now; I was getting scared of her. I got up on the stage, introduced myself to the audience, and positioned myself for the performance of a lifetime.           The moment I started playing the first few notes I was so nervous, my hands were shaking. Then suddenly Sherona starting shaking! She was growing bigger by the second until she was towering over me! Her teeth were growing into swords! After she finished eating the microphone in one bite, she turned toward me and I knew that I was her next victim. She was right on top of me! She opened her mouth, and I took my final breath when…           “Tatum! Wake Up! You’re going to be late for your recital!” My mom was yelling at me from downstairs. Was all that really just a dream? I look up and sure enough I see my beautiful Sherona sitting lifelessly on her guitar stand. I run over and check to see that she hasn’t grown any teeth or eyeballs. Luckily, she just sits there like a tamed animal waiting to be played with.           The real recital is finally here and I have to admit that I am a little nervous. But as I start to warm up, I feel the confidence and comfort of being able to “control” my guitar. After all, I’ve seen what it would be like to have it the other way around.

This is great, Tatum! I'm at the library, and the people next to me keep looking over to see what I'm snickering about. :)

The tense was a little mixed up, though - like, "I was a little nervous right now".

Thanks so much for reading my story! After you said that thing about the tenses, I reread my story and found quite a few errors. Thanks again!
