Who I Am...Or Maybe Not

Submitted by Libby on Fri, 12/07/2018 - 01:30

I’m not a perfect person.
You know that, but I thought I’d
tell you what it’s like to be
the girl I am.
And yet, I really do not want
to tell you everything because
I am not who you think
I am—
that's just the way
I am.
And right now, I am
struggling with telling you
what’s most important, yet
I’m really dying to tell you
all about myself.
And now, I think that
I will stop
with pen and ink this
scratching on my
paper, for I do not want to
bore you any longer.

The Year -32

Submitted by Libby on Mon, 11/05/2018 - 21:53

Dear friends of the world-that-is-your-own-and-not-mine,

How odd it is to turn -32. The troubles of this world seem hardly surmountable at this age in life. Each three-hundred-and-sixty-five days, poor me, but I lose one year of my life. That’s how negatives work, you see. -33 become -32, and -32 become -31, and so on. I know, you are thinking “wouldn’t that mean she gains a year?” Ah! You are thinking in terms of your world. In mine, things work…a bit backwards from yours. I think.

Head Over Heels

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Wed, 04/25/2018 - 05:00

I held the flowing bouquet of woodland flowers in both my hands and walked down the aisle at a measured pace. Once I had reached my designated spot, I turned and met the eyes of—no, not my groom. Sheesh. I’m single. I have yet to find a man that is willing to put up with this much sarcasm on a daily basis. Not that I’m looking for a man. Anyways, back to my story. I looked up and met the smiling gaze of my baby sister. Caitlyn looked ethereal in her shimmering white gown, with a cathedral veil trailing yards behind her.

Round and Round

The little jaybird hopped once and fluttered out of my hands. I stood up to watch it fly away and grinned when it chirped back at me over its shoulder. I had rescued the half-frozen little thing from the snow yesterday, and fed it and kept it warm until it got restless and flew itself into the kitchen window. Once the bird was out of sight, I stumped back inside and made myself a cup of hot chocolate. Mom was at work, and I was "sort of" sick, so I got to stay home from school. Tomorrow would be Winter Break, so I basically had had an extra two days off school.

Gregor Mendnwall: Hero of Caldwian

Submitted by Cecilia on Fri, 12/29/2017 - 17:10

It was finally out! I sped through the 'Heroes and Myths' bookstore. The seventh book in the Caldwian series, 'Gregor Mendenwall: Hero of Caldwian'. The series was the greatest thing since Lord of the Rings came out a century ago! And it had finally reached the end.
I turned the corner, ready to grab the book off the shelf the moment I saw it. That’s when I saw him.

When We're Together

Submitted by Libby on Thu, 10/12/2017 - 05:18

When we’re together smiles win the day
The sun’s shining bright, clouds all blown away.

When we’re together things really get Fryed,
White Converse and brown ones sit right side by side.

When we’re together we laugh at our jokes
That really aren’t good, still we laugh til we croak.

When we’re together, it’s hard to describe.
You always create such a friendly vibe.

When we’re together, I love you so much.
I don’t think there’s anyone with your special touch.

Backstage

A crowd noisily gathers in the auditorium, sometimes in large groups, occasionally trickling in one by one. Little do they know what goes on back stage. But if you open the door…

Burnin' n Bakin'

Submitted by Libby on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 04:29

A pinch of this, a dab of that
Into the mixing bowl,
Then stir until you cain’t no more,
With all your heart and soul.

This recipe to good success
To many lives has bring’d
A sense of hope with smells o’ joy—
When baking tunes is sing’d.

The scent o’ sweet fresh bread, homemade
A loner’s heart can cheer
It saves him from the pit of gloom
And from the shame of beer.

So here’s to yous a message plain
To all who burn and bake
Keep up your work and think to put
Some love in what you make.

Musical Chairs

Submitted by Madalyn Clare on Tue, 01/24/2017 - 23:00

Setting: long feasting hall. Characters: Æsirs, Æsirs, Æsirs everywhere.

Thor: Hark, ye, good Æsirs! Might we entertain ourselves with a game?

(All agree heartily [who can’t? They’re all drunk])

Thor: Shan’t we be merry as we burn calories strolling and gallivanting ‘round our good table in a match of Musical Chairs?

Baldr: Here, here!

Hodr: Minstrels! Strike up a tune!

(Playing music)

(Loki enters feasting hall)

Loki: Did I hear a game?

(Music stops, all run for a seat. Loki teleports into Sif’s seat, leaving her standing.)
