A single drop of silver,
A web spun, from the purest gold.
Colors, beyond imagination,
In every shape, and size.
Precious strands of dew,
Falling from a shelf.
You turn in awe,
Unable to grasp,
The concept of this wealth,
The Royal Treasury.
Coats of armor,
unusable for the jewels,
that laden every inch,
of their gold-incrusted surfaces.
This wonder is amazing;
I’ve never seen the like.
It is like a huge kaleidoscope,
In all the shifting hues,
Of silver, gold, and royal purple,
Sapphire blue! Diamond silver!
Opal aquamarine!
Mouths hanging agape,
And hands hanging limply by their sides,
the conquering army,
can hardly find a place to start,
The plundering ,
Of The Royal Treasury.
In chains, outside the door,
A sobbing woman begs,
For just one of the treasures,
Which lie within.
“Move, Queen.”
The hairy guard snarls,
Pushing her to the ground,
The castle lies in ruins,
The Treasury is lost.

Is this based on something?
Hi Sarah,
This sounds to me as though it is a poem based on a historical occasion, or based on some story. Am I right?
It is interesting to think about that moment when there is a pause in the commotion, and the war suddenly seems distant and small compared with the splendor of the treasury, so old and majestic. Then the queen's sobs remind the soldiers of their opportunity to steal and "The Treasury is lost."
One thing that confuses me is the change in person, from "You turn in awe" to "I've never seen the like." Is there an intentional switch? Are we suddenly in the mind of one of the guards?

The poem is not pased on any historical event, I needed to write, so I just started typing,
It's mostly just random thoughts.
I switched from "you" to "I" intentionally,
I just felt like it. :D
