Pocket Change

The things in my left pocket are scattered and few:
Tissues for wiping a tear or two,
A note to remind me of some mistake,
A tourniquet for when I break.
At the bottom is where you'll find
The bit of dignity that I resigned,
All tied up with a silver hair.

"You were not meant to fit into a shallow box built by someone else." -J. Raymond

This is a kind of sad poem...tissues, mistake notes, tourniquiets, resigned dignity.. is there hope in your other pocket?

Yes, it is sad.  I was actually going to add a second stanza about the right pocket, and who knows. . . maybe I still will.

Incidentally, something I should have put in a note on the bottom is that this is more of a look at the feelings of those who have experienced real poverty.  It wasn't supposed to sound angsty, but rather the thoughts on the hardships on has suffered throughout the years.

"The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with."

This is lovely, though a bit depressing. I like how the last line doesn't rhyme with anything. I think everybody probably relates to/understands this poem in their own way...anyhow, love it. :)
