An Alarming Amount of Poetry (Part the Second)

More Than Anything

I love you more than anything
Which is to say, nothing
I was left with it
And now I'm just barely
Teetering on the edge of nothing
Turning into something again
But the doubt comes
And the doubt goes
How can I love you more than anything
When I have nothing else to love?
But then the sunlight comes peeking back through
In the form of your smile
And, I don't know, I just know
That I can

These Things

simple minds
call me home
and ask me to grant their dreams
what are those
I ask
they hesitate to tell me
I don't know what to think
My head falls to my knees
I don't want this
These things
These Things Aren't Me

Earnestly

I want to loose myself to you
I want to forget who I was
Before you graced me with your gaze
That girl was nothing
I swear--believe me
This girl is everything you need
I'll never say no
Or call you an idiot
I'll be compliant
Just say the word
And I'll rush to fix it
You mean the world
Let me try, yes, let me try
Earnestly,
Yours

Washed Away

You were washed away today
By his eyes
They were greener than yours
We spoke for just a second

Outsourced

Take her back
File her
One, two, three clicks
Take her out
Free her
One, two, three steps
Take her there
Leave her
One, two, three breaths
Outsource her
She's getting troublesome
And we don't need her

Stranger

I'll call you my Stranger
And see if you take interest
In meeting me again

Mmm

Mmm you
Something about you
Vague and undefined
I love that blurriness
I can shape it any way I'd like

Dr. Pepper

Kick back, pop the tap
I'll drink this Dr. Pepper under your watchful eye
And when you ask me to get one for you
I'll say, "Do it yourself--this isn't the sixties."
To which you'll grumble and get up
But ruffle my hair when you walk past
Brushing slightly against my hand that dangles against the wicker
I'll be stoic faced until you go inside
But then
Then I'll allow myself a flash of heat across my cheeks
And I know I'll get you a Dr. Pepper
Next time

Badly

I've had three dreams about him
In one we were standing
Talking
And he wasn't what I thought he'd be
The other two are indistinct
But I know he graced my sleep
I woke up reluctantly
I wanted so badly for them to be real

Rewind Him

My finger is poised over rewind
All times
Where he's concerned
A flash of him
And I go back, back
To watch again

Fighting

my stomach twists
my heartbeat speeds
my pencil sketches
nervously
I'm sick of anger
Of not answering
Harsh tones
Over nothing
Money-hungry
Can be spread thinly across
172 definitions

Why

I ask myself this
I don't know
I won't know
Why I love someone
I don't know
I fear those words
'I don't know'
Because it leaves me questioning
What it is
That I don't
And am willing to overlook

Sliver

Take your sliver
Of her heart
They're not cheap but
They're good
They'll make you feel good
For at least a little while
And then you can go on
Stronger
But what about her?
Who is to be her advocate?
What happens when she runs out
Of slivers?

Sixteen

Once upon a time I said
"Sixteen"
In regard to everything
But now that I am quickly
Approaching that doorstep
I don't know what I was thinking
Honestly, it doesn't feel older
Or wiser
In that many ways
I think maybe back then
It seemed grand and expansive
Divine, almost
To be able say
"I'm sixteen"
But really
Compared to others
I'm a baby
And, for now,
I don't mind it being that way

Out of Reach

It used to be him
But now it's him
I don't know who would be better for me
They're both out of my reach

Notes

Since I seem to be in the poetry mood as of late, I think I'm going to keep this up. Let me know what you think about this batch! I'm hoping these feel just as inspired. Because quite a few of these--lines and such--just seemed to come to me out of nowhere, and I wrote them down on paper. The majority of them, I mean. Which is always nice.

Comments

I don't know how I didn't see this! I love these even more than the first batch.

"But then the sunlight comes peeking back through
In the form of your smile." That was very vivid.

"I want to forget who I was
Before you graced me with your gaze
That girl was nothing
I swear--believe me...
Just say the word
And I'll rush to fix it
You mean the world" sigh. Sad but true.

Dr. Pepper made me smile. It was super vivid and had a great rhythm. I definitely relate to Sixteen! I also really liked These Things and I am absolutely IN LOVE with Washed Away. It was fabulous.
Anyway, great job, and keep posting!!!

"You were not meant to fit into a shallow box built by someone else." -J. Raymond

Okay, so I pretty much loved all of these, but I did have some favorite parts.

*cue long comment* xD

Badly was probably my favorite, especially "But I know he graced my sleep". There is such a sense of longing throughout the poem, and it's beautiful and a bit tragic. And so of course I loved it.

Out of Reach was very relatable, as was Rewind Him.

Why made me question; "I don't know, I won't know" and "I don't know, I fear those words" really made me think about how much I avoid answers sometimes, or ignore them when they're not what I want.

More Than Anything was very sweet and very real, and was just all around lovely.

I'm ever so glad you're in a poetry mood. :)

Oh, thank you so much! I'm so glad I'm getting a positive response to these. Ahhhh! *knocks on wood* I'm super excited right now, for no apparent reason other than people are actually getting something from my poems. *unable to suppress enthusiasm any longer, jumps around and pumps fists in the air*

These are definitely coming from a more honest, realistic place than the previous--if that means anything. Which is kind of frightening to admit. haha

These are absolutely beautiful...I lOVE! I hope to keep this comment short...but not promising!
More than Anything: Simply beautiful. <3
These Things: I liked that. Kind of mystical. Ish.
Earnestly: I laughed. I found something funny in it; and something VERY true.
Washed Away: You could have so expanded this! All at once I had a million ideas of what you could do with that.
Outsourced: Brilliant rhythm. But I think the end was too abrupt.
Dr Pepper: Guessing it's a soft drink. We don't have it here. :) But I liked it too.
Badly: Amazing. Totally relatable. Well done.
Fighting: Indescribable. I related. "172 definitions". Love!
Why: Ditto to little woman. Felt like it was questioning me.
Sixteen: Oh man. How did you know?! Those were my thoughts.
Out of Reach: Cute.

Love your poems!!
