A Flame Gone Out

~~~In darkness shrouded
Death doth steal upon us
With it comes a winter of sadness
Spring has gone, cold has come
We leave a trail, weeping
The sun of life has set, the moon of death has risen
Pale fingers, dark fingers
Grasp and pull away the spark
Ashes in the aftermath of flame
Black soot left as we wept~~~
Wow.  That was cool.
Why thank you. :) At first I was worried it was a little too...dark, I suppose? So I'm rather glad to know that it's appreciated despite its gloominess. :P
May it be an evening star / Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls / Your heart will be true / You walk a lonely road / Oh! How far you are from home...
I'm not always found of gloomy poems, but the title of this poem reminded me of a line in "Lothlorien" from the FotR soundtrack, Caled Veleg, ethuinnen~A great light, has gone out. [[Gandalf, of course]]
 Wow.  I could hear the words being spoken in my head, I didn't just read them.  This has the feel of some ancient Celtic poem, a Druid funerary song or something.  It doesn't reflect at all my view of death, but it was very well written anyway.
Brother: Your character should drive a motorcycle.
Me: He can't. He's in the wilderness.
Brother: Then make it a four-wheel-drive motorcycle!
I'm glad that you liked it, Mary, and everyone else who's commented. It means a lot to me that people read and enjoy my ramblings. =)
And as to views on death, it doesn't reflect mine either. I wrote it for the intention of having it be recited by a character of mine who holds the views expressed in the poem. Knowing of Heaven and such, my view of death isn't morbid at all. =P
