a collection of thoughts

This World

come flood or fire,
earthquake, avalanche or tornado,
civilization moves on
some may pause
in silent respect
but our mantra remains:
‘go over, under, around,
go through.
all must move, or be moved.
our plans, wishes, ideas
must
go though.’
busy, busy
work and play
busy, busy
find this day
busy, busy
this world moves on.

grey sky

grey sky
gold fields
stark, lonely outlines
of trees huddled for warmth

a curious wind blows
searching each grain
swirling chaff
molding clouds

a uniform landscape
exhibiting beautiful neutrality
row after row
plot after plot

grey sky
gold fields

empty homes

lonely houses;
long abandoned
for some unknown quest.
gently leaning,
quietly sighing,
awaiting a new beginning.

Streetlamps

Streetlamps are artificial stars,
Lighting the way
For those who go past.
Travelers weary
Follow their light,
Trusting these stars
To guide in the night.

mountain church

Little white mountain church,
standing proud and steady.
Four weathered walls,
reflecting weathered rocks.
A tall white steeple,
ending in a cross
containing a bell
pointing toward Heaven.
The small congregation,
gathering here to pray.
The words of wisdom given,
pointing to His way.
The sacrifice now ended,
the songs of praise all sung,
the worshipers go forward
Mass is now done.
The church now is empty
to the human eye
yet still inside resides
angels worshiping
the miracle that is Christ.
Seemingly alone,
yet filled with Heavenly joy,
little mountain church
pointing toward the sky.

Notes

These were written over the last year, but all while traveling. I seem to write more poetry then. Which is your favorite?

Comments

MY favourite is the first one. Sad but so true. :)

Goodbye? Oh no, please. Can’t we just go back to page one and start all over again?” – Winnie The Pooh

--Mountain Church--love it! The rhythm is really good and the words are so descriptive. Write more!

"It is not the length of life, but the depth of life." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Oh, these are so delicately lovely. I think 'Streetlights' is my favorite, though, because I have a certain fondness for those artificial stars...

I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief

This stanza is a diamond:

"a curious wind blows
searching each grain
swirling chaff
molding clouds"

I think my head almost exploded (in a joyous way): how you dropped me down to a single grain and then opened up the entire skies. To be able to scale like that with words is impressive!

The whole poem is gold - all of them are - and they will, without a doubt, be on a printed page one day.

(Anna had the word "delicate" right, too.)

"but our mantra remains:
‘go over, under, around,
go through.
all must move, or be moved.
our plans, wishes, ideas
must
go though.’"

I repeated that to myself several times, just because I loved the rhythm in my head.
It seems like something that will be quoted!
