Two Lonely Souls

The forlorn child looks up with a smile
Each time the maple leaves sway with the breeze,
Dancing like maidens of scarlet and gold
For the girl at the window who watches the trees,
Seeking escape from a sorrowful world.
Watching the brilliant frocks each leaf wears
Tremble with laughter in the rustling wind,
The sad little girl has forgotten her cares.

The sprightly boughs wave gaily at her,
Greeting in style the desolate girl.
Noting how weary she looks, the leaves
Skip blithely about and merrily twirl,
Attempting to please their audience of one—
The only creature who still comes to see
The old, lonely maple. Together they make
Two lonely souls in glad company.

Hullo :) I'm glad to be back again with more poetry. This one was based off of Richard Wilbur's "The Boy at the Window." Comments and criticism are always very welcome.

Oh Libby, I love this so much!!! First of all your description is amazing! I especially loved that you said the leaves were "Dancing like maidens of scarlet and gold". Secondly, you personified the leaves/tree very well! It really did feel like a person to person interaction, and I loved it! But thirdly, this poem just reminded me of the unique peace that God's beautiful creation brings us. It really is a gift of love to us.

In short, as always, well done Libby! <3 I would say this is one my favorites of yours. :)

C.S. Lewis ~ "He died not for men, but for each man. If each man had been the only man made, He would have done no less."

Okay, your imagery? On point. Your personification? Perfection. Timing? Best.
I just love everything about it and its perfect sensation of Autumn! I could hear it, see it, smell it, feel it, taste it... amazing!
