The day is bright and welcoming,
I don’t know how I can sleep in,
A new day, a new song to sing,
I laugh and watch the sun peep in.
Hurriedly I dress and fold
and look out on the clear new day,
Yesterday now seems so old,
Our earth has never looked so gay.
I rush out now the world to greet
The dewy grass like jewels and pearls,
New trials I’m prepared to meet,
As the clear blue dawn unfurls.
The day is sad and dark and cold,
Though yesterday was fair and bright,
The clouds so dreary, fold on fold,
It makes me feel that all’s not right.
Water pours in sheets of rain
No let up comes, no light of day,
No children playing in the lane,
The earth seems now so old and gray.
New challenges I cannot face,
No strength to meet the world have I,
It seems now a foreboding place,
It seems like I can’t even try.
On days like these remember this:
There’s always blue behind the gray,
And just because you feel amiss
The world won’t always be this way.
Behind the clouds there’s still a sun,
A light behind the dimness lies,
A light that will the shadows stun
The darkness now a light defies.

This is very nice! I love the image of the sun peeping in, and your last stanza is especially nice. You wrote this with a very charming rhythm and word usage.
Also, I love the puppy! : ) Is it yours?
Thanks
Thanks. The puppy's not actually mine, but I thought it was a cute picture.
This is very beautiful,
This is very beautiful, Libby.
Hurriedly I dress and fold I like how you used the word "fold". It kinda jumped out at me in a pleasant way.
New challenges I cannot face,
No strength to meet the world have I,
It seems now a foreboding place,
It seems like I can’t even try. Very relatable. It's crazy how many days can feel like this. Frightening, really.

The darkness now a light defies. Perfect ending! /A light that will the shadows stun/ again, your use of "stun" jumped out at me. Beautiful.
Thank you for sharing this with us. It's very deep, and I felt blessed by it.
I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.
