Dancing

Dance Me Down

Submitted by Bridget on Wed, 01/13/2010 - 03:18

It’s time to move.
Leave me alone, let me dance.
I’m not your girl, I’m not your friend.
You don’t have a chance.

I don’t have time for you.
Just let me breathe a minute.
The music is intoxicating;
Ten minutes will do it.

Dance me down
If you can.
Make it loud,
Make it fast.
Get it now?
I can dance
Dance me down.
Dance me down.

Can you do it?
Move, dance, live the beat.
Catch the irony.
Close your eyes, let yourself feel it.

**A short story... hope the ending isn't too confusing. Enjoy.**

There was no moon that night. Aislin always remembered how the sky looked, for the stars still burned as bright as ever in her mind even years later, but there was always that empty space where the moon should have been.

Elegant Shadow

Dance with me, elegant shadow!
take my warm fingers into your cool palm,
dance with me, dance with me, shadow!
across the moonlit lawn

Dance with me, bright-eyed shadow,
and spin me through the pale light
of the clock-face and star-falls
of the first autumn night

Dance with me, fleet-footed shadow!
Let the music be our guide,
let the notes of the bat-calls keep ringing
as they flit beneath the sky

Star-strewn, it glitters
blackened, and bright

Child of Darkness Chapter 5

Submitted by Keri on Sat, 05/16/2009 - 21:22

“What’s going on?” Danielle has to raise her voice above the whisper we’ve been keeping our voices at in order to be heard above the ever-increasing ruckus. From the din, few words are distinct. I believe I hear “catch him, catch him!” But I am unsure. Could I doubt Korin? He’s a good man. On the other hand, Danielle didn’t even know him. Scelerisal could have instructed him to kill Danielle on the road and drag me back. There wouldn't be shouts to catch him if he had betrayed us. He must have been found out. Or not. My head swims with these thoughts and others as I answer my sister.

I danced - ‘twas but a little dance

Submitted by Sarah B. on Sat, 04/25/2009 - 20:54

I read too much Emily Dickenson, so I had to write something in her style. :)
------------

I danced - ‘twas but a little dance
And very poor besides -
I simply felt I would not know
If I had never tried.

I spun around - I laughed and spun,
A minute - maybe three -
Surely that was not cause enough
For the world to turn on me! -

But as soon as I had stopped,
The room tipped up on end.
I fell, but then it started up,
And twirled me ‘round again.

Pure Joy

Pure joy,
so good, so wonderful
just the memory makes my heart soar
I can still feel the wind
as cold as the snow
and the ice all around us
as it rushed through my hair
as I spun around, twirling,
my mind spinning, whirling
reveling in the new revelation
And the yellow light, spilling
from the windows and doors
and the darkness that glittered
with crystal stars up above
Just the sound of laughter,
and the sight of a smile
makes my soul lift even higher
Running, and spinning,

Dandelion Dance

Their sweet yellow faces
as bright as the sun
their stems, thin and graceful
and still everyone

Think they are weeds,
try to chase them off
But if you walk through the woods
You'll find their secret spot

A little green meadow
That's filled with their beauty,
their happiness and joy,
and such wonder that few see

The blossoms, alive
blink and sway in the breeze
Their gladness fills me
and makes me feel free

Fairy Dance

They gather when the fields are green,
beneath the golden sun,
they gather in the meadow,
ready for some fun

They run amongst the grass,
waving above their heads,
they skip into a circle,
and gladly, catching hands:

they hop to the left and spin to the right,
they sing their happy tunes,
while others play the fiddle and fife
upon a gray mushroom

In and out they weave around,
threading through the daisies,
Up and down they dance around
to the skies music is raising

Chess Waltz

CHESS WALTZ

The King and Queen were arguing
about which way to go,
the pawns were dancing all around,
and running to and fro.

The Knights were sleepy,
the Rooks were sad,
so when the Bishops pushed on past,
both were feeling bad.

Across the squares the Pawns did skate,
The Bishops chasing after,
While Knights, now wide awake,
shouted, "faster! Faster!"

The Rooks dodged left,
the Rooks dodged right,
but there they went--
straight through the fight!

Do You Dance?

Reticent.
Somber.
His dark eyes quietly glanced over the room, all thoughts hidden behind the mask of silence that covered his face.
A young girl, maybe fifteen, appeared at his side, her light eyes and hair contrasting with his darker complexion.
“Do you dance?” She asked quietly, sensing the deep quiet and thoughtfulness inside of him.
“No.”
Her face shifted into a questioning look, and her blue eyes seemed as if they were about to laugh. “Why not?”
