This isn't one of my favorites, but I was told its been waiting longer so it deserved to be put up before some of my others! So, don't expect anything great but I hope you enjoy it! I would love a comment :)!

Traveling in Africa

Submitted by Sarah on Tue, 08/14/2012 - 11:09

This is a compilation of all the blog posts I made before and during my mission trip to South Africa with the Oregon Adventist Mens Chorus. I've taken out most of the fundraising spiels.

Monday, 25 June 2012: "What's up with this trip, anyhow???"

Hi people. Many of you may be curious, wondering, or just downright confused as to what OAMC is, why I'm trying to go to South Africa with them, and what we plan to do when we get there. The answer to all three questions (plus more!) I promise will be more or less answered in this blog post.

Comrade Song: Two of Three

Submitted by Anna on Thu, 12/29/2011 - 22:52

Two of Three
Anita’s hands lost their grip on anything but air. She swayed, but she seized rope rail before the cliff fell away under her feet. The darkness seemed to hit a wall a long, long way across from her. She tripped back from the edge, hyperventilating.
The sky flashed. Anita’s hands flew to shield her eyes against the symbol lit on the opposite cliff. It was like two triangles kissing or a bowtie. A long, deep note sounded and lingered, a horn of alarm.
“The rune of emergence. They’re coming.”

Waifs

Submitted by Sarah on Tue, 01/11/2011 - 07:03

"Please, sir? A bit of food?" I ignored the child's pleas and outstretched hands and walked on. On to the next starving child, on to deny even the acknowledgement of its existence. Why weren't the beggars ever adults? It would make this simpler. Despondently, it sank to the ground, incapable of following me, it would wait for the next passerby. I was good at ignoring them, though at first I tried wildly to assist each and every one of the ethereally thin waifs I encountered. Now I knew better, looked through them like everyone else did.

My Brother, Nikolai

Submitted by Kyleigh on Sat, 10/16/2010 - 09:24

I can't remember how I found AP. I think the first thing I read was Aisling's "You Know You're a Homeschooler When..." It was shortly after we moved overseas. I followed AP for a little while, but didn't really get involved. Then I stumbled across it again later and decided I wanted to stay for good that time around. I remember days I'd daydream about years from now when our children and grandchildren would be writing on here.

My Brother, Nikolai

Submitted by Kyleigh on Wed, 08/18/2010 - 20:41

This is the beginnings of a story. It's been pulled together over the past few months... and I promised Anna I'd post it. :) You have to read it (think it) from the perspective of a girl, perhaps 10 or 12 years old, with a thick accent, Russian or Baltic-like... I'm not sure of the exact country they're going from. I guess it could be any war-torn country, in the past 40-50 years or so. I'd considered setting it in Lebanon, but I got some inspiration about the musical side of the family and needed to use Nikolai... long story!

Man of the Road

Submitted by Mary on Wed, 06/02/2010 - 15:09

“Who are you there, walking past my gate?”

“A man of the road, my lady,

whose wings are his feet,

whose home is the highway,

whose friends are his staff and his song.”

“Where are you going, Man of the Road?”

“Over the hill, my lady,

on towards the mountains,

on towards the sea,

on with the call of the wind.”

“What are you seeking, Man of the Road?”

“The rainbow’s gold, my lady,

and the song of the lark,

and the sunset’s fire,

and the light of the moon on the sea.”

Home

Submitted by kit-kat on Tue, 02/16/2010 - 14:17

This place I love's my destination:

A town with little population

But without too much isolation.

I'll rest beneath sky's dome.

Can’t stop my hearts acceleration!

Of slowing it shows no indication.

I simply cannot resist temptation

To find my way back Home.

The Road to Nowhere

Submitted by Ragdoll on Sun, 01/25/2009 - 04:20
The road to nowhere. Or that's what it seems like anyways. Heading west on Interstate 10 with my mom, dad, brother, sister, dog, cat, and myself. Miles of empty land stretching out all around us. Small hills here and there. A lot of yellowish-greenish grass. Dry. Like no water has touched their roots in ages. My cat finally sleeps peacefully after an hour of meowing. My brother is immersed in his video game. I wonder if he will keep his neck down for that long, the whole trip. 10 more hours. 10 more hours. I can make it. I have to. I person can't die of boredom, can they? No.

The World is Wide

Submitted by The Brit on Sat, 10/25/2008 - 21:06

The world is wide with much to see,
And many sights that wait for me.
So many countries near and far,
And some, I don't know where they are.

Rainy Britain, sunny Spain.
I'll get to them by boat or plane.
I'll travel far to see these places,
Brand new cultures, brand new faces.

So many ways to travel there,
By land, by sea, and by the air.
The great wall of China, the Coliseum of Rome.
I'd much rather travel, than sit at home.
