Goodbye Burt

Submitted by E on Wed, 07/03/2013 - 20:44

*NOTE* This is weird, slightly creepy, and not for everybody. I would say it's PG or PG-13 (it contains some social drinking of alcohol and a very bizarre plot that I won't tell you because it would spoil it) Anyway, please critique!

Warning: A strong PG, mild PG-13. If any of the following bothers you, don't read:

-Use of the word 'gay' to describe someone's sexual orientation in a non-derogatory way

-One religious exclamation

Thank you!

Chapter One

I opened my eyes.

I was blinded by light. Not just any light—bright, clean white that smelled so pure it made my throat burn. There was an ache in my chest, one that stemmed from my very center, squeezing out painful shivers with every heartbeat.

I just wasted approximately one and a half minutes of your life

People are like birds. Sometimes the men are the peacocks with the big plumage and all of the little mousy female peacocks are coming up and drooling over them. Sometimes they’re like those awkward little birds that make a special dance for their favorite lady, and she heartlessly turns them down if she disapproves.
I guess that they could also be like preying mantises. I’ve seen girl after girl eat her boyfriend’s head.

The Power

1. The Power
Hold our secrets in just a little longer
Don’t they always say that it can’t get any worse?
I’m starting to realize that I might just do anything for you
That’s a power that I don’t want to give

2. Rotten Memories
Spill out all the broken pieces, throw them in the trash
They can sit and rot and fester until the smell like week old oranges
I won’t shed a tear, nor will I blink an eye

She and the Flame

Submitted by E on Tue, 04/16/2013 - 05:03

1. No More Drama

Reflecting back, it seems so silly
All of the whining and the drama
It leaves an ache of embarrassment in my chest
But then I reflect further
Then I reflect deeper
And then I recall all the things that I felt.

2. The Flame

Let the flames lick the sky
Faces reflected, going down into the embers
It’s only certain things that set my heart on fire
Just before gets choked out by the smoke

3. The Sky is Falling

There He Was

Author's note: The first and last paragraphs outside the markings (-----) are taken in the present while the rest are flashbacks. :) There he was—standing at the doorway. I raised my head to meet his gaze. When I looked into his chocolate eyes, a picture I had seen before came into my mind. He looked so familiar. Argh, who was he? ------------ Bursting into the living room, I saw my mother and father sitting together. I ran towards them, waving an envelope. “I got it! I got it!” “Got what, Cheryl?” “A letter from Andrew! Remember I sent him, you know, the Settlers of Catan game?

The Captain Club: The Adventure in King's Forest Part 2

OH MAN! I’M IN so much trouble!” Leo cried, running as fast as he could. His face wore misery, anxiety and worry. I wonder what's happened to her this time, Julius wondered. Last time she screamed like that was when she said she saw a shark in the neighbor’s kiddie pool while she was swinging over their fence.

Horace tripped over a log. “Ouch!” he cried. The Club stopped and looked back at him, waiting for Horace to get up. “Don’t worry guys,” Horace said, rubbing his knee. "I just bruised it a little. Go on ahead.”

Leo nodded.

“Come on guys,” Julius said.

We're back on track with the main story arc, though I did enjoy writing Gianna's hidden tale. I promise that when I go back through the story in the first revision that there will be more of Gianna. For now, though, I need to get the MC story down... any side story threads are going to have to wait until 2013.
