Glass Heart
I had a little glass heart a boy once asked to see.
He dropped and cracked it and gave it back to me.
Then came another boy the heart he tried to mend,
But when he gave it back it was broken once again.
More boys came and more boys went with each my heart did break.
My heart became a small ball of glass and hurt and hate,
And things began to stick to it like trash and muck and dirt.
Then I met the one named Jesus who said this he’d cure.
If I’d just give my heart to him he would make it pure.
I was afraid that once again the little heart would break.
But I held it out to him and gently he did take,
And with scared hands began to mold
Away the sorrows all untold,
And gave me back a heart of gold.
This was one of my early poems. I probably wrote it in Jr. high. Enjoy.
