(NOTE: some of this is repeat, just want to post chapter by chapter. Had to finish Chapter 1, so here is the entirety of that. Currently working on Chapter 2, so stay tuned.)

A BROKEN HOME

I heard the door slam solidly behind me, and took the stairs two at a time. I dashed through the pouring Gulf Coast rain to the bus stop.

“Hey.” I nodded in the general direction of an older gentleman sitting on the bench, inches from the pouring rain. “You doing okay today?”

The Black Rose

She then became

A rose as black
As her heart and yet
With a beauty rarer still

A rose of stone
With a heart of gold
And a manner just as chill

Chill as the ice
That froze her bones
And made her darker still

A queen of ice
In a land of death
Willing to steal and kill

The queen of death
Who followed her call
Though she could never be filled

With loss of life
She froze that much more
Then, time bent to her will

Wynne made it to the barracks of the keep. Warrior women jogged to and from the extensive and solid establishment. Marching girls with blonde braids swaying on their backs passed by her, their blue eyes gazing on her. They whispered behind their small, pale hands in the lilting yet hard language of Skuld. Wynne smiled and nodded to the squadron, who smirked shyly and went on their way.
She knocked on the barrack door, and a lady dressed in a soft buckskin tunic and palla answered.
“Úda’lugha?” she asked plainly.
“Gwceff,” answered Wynne as she entered.

Nóe ran down the hall.
He remembered last night as if it were a second ago. Every memory was vibrant as if it had just happened. Every single word, action, and gesture was crystal clear in his mind.
“Your brother is becoming quite destructive,” mused Lord Crofton, carelessly strolling across his throne room. “It’s become… peeving. And his dog, that mangy, rabid thing… that is a lot to take care of.” He stopped mid-step, then turned to Nóe. “Has he been this way for long?”

I Went To School

They’re laughing too loud over here at school,
And I can’t help but wonder if it’s pointed at me.
My plain pink tee and thrift store jeans
Score no points on their checklist marked “cool”.

He says a word that makes me shut down.
It’s vile and rough and I don’t understand.
Why choose to say something that way?
I fix my eyes on my papers scattered round.

Cinnamon,
Cardamom,
Allspice,
And Cloves
The smells are divine
As everyone knows
Fall is upon us,
This season is here
To share in the joy
With family near
Remember the good times
The things that you have
Be thankful for treasures
Your mom and your dad
What time here is left us
We must make the best
Live days to the fullest
Live happy and blest

We ate our breakfast, and Ruthie asked, "Want to see the puppies?"

We went next door, and she took us upstairs to a small room with a crackling fire.

The nest was an elevated box, covered with dry shavings.

Naomi, the cavalier spaniel, stood up and began to wag herself back and forth: her teats were swollen and jiggling, the silk under her belly dripping with milk.

"Three females," I told Daniel. "They were born on my birthday, so their names are Sarah, Bethany, and Theresa."

"Really?"
