Riddle

Where hurt abounds, it raises up,
It lifts the hearts of men on earth
Bringing purpose, crushes gloom
Arresting spirit at its birth

It promises a brand-new start
A melancholy heart it cheers;
When waiting in anxiety
It gets the better of our fears.

Where life exists it will be found,
If even just a hint of it;
And where ‘tis found, it cautions us
The slightest fear not to permit.

Though all of mankind seeks it out,
In worldly things ’tis rarely found;
Yet there is one with power to grant
This wondrous gift with joy unbound.

Wisdom? Humility? I'll keep guessing as I think of things...

And aside from the brilliancy of your rifddle, the poetry is amazing. Well done. It flows smoothly, and your rhyme scheme is on point (as per usual). Lovely job!

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

"What's old as all creation,
Younger than the rain?
Tender as a cherry blossom,
Stronger than a chain?
What's worth much more than gold or silver?
Still it's always free,
Higher than the heavens
And deeper than the sea?"
-- Billy Edd Wheeler, "A Song of the Cumberland Gap"

Where hurt abounds, love raises up,
Love lifts the hearts of men on earth
Bringing purpose, crushes gloom
Arresting spirit at its birth

Love promises a brand-new start
A melancholy heart love cheers;
When waiting in anxiety
Love gets the better of our fears.

Where life exists love will be found,
If even just a hint of it;
And where ‘tis found, love cautions us
The slightest fear not to permit.

Though all of mankind seeks love out
Love hides, and waits ‘til one is found
Who needs the power love affords
Then grants its gift with joy unbound.

Perhaps:) I guess love really does fit with the riddle! I never thought of that. Brilliant observation, James!
Not the answer I was looking for, though. Sorry. ;)

Companionship? I'm stumped. Well done, Libby; well done.

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

You know, I feel like I've kinda been unfair. The answer is, there are so many answers! Bravery, Courage, Hope, Forgiveness, Friendship, Love--any of these could be the answer.
And they could be the right answer.
I'm right now leaning towards James' answer of love. I really wanted to see what y'all answered before making up my mind.
I so appreciated the answers you gave.
Thank you all so much.

And companionship works perfectly alongside with friendship. ;)
Y'all have given me the answers! Thanks!
My original idea was hope. So Damaris, you got that one right on. But then, the idea came to me that there might be so many possibilities for an answer, you all could help me out. And you have! :)
