Chapter 4

The next few days were horrible. Macavity paid many a visit, none of which I would like to go into detail about. It seemed to go forever. Then one day, he decided he didn't need Amber anymore.

It started out normally. He came in, the four of us crowded into a corner, he pulled one of us away-Amber.
He smacked her across the face. I was stunned for a minute, then this white hot fury built up inside me. According to Charity, I started growling.
He had barely raised his paw for another blow, when I jumped on him and started biting every inch of him I could reach. We struggled for a couple of minutes, then he threw me off. I had a mouthful of ginger fur.
However angry he was when he came in, it was multiplied by ten when he threw me off. He gave up on Amber, who was being shielded by Aly and Charity, and turned to me with pure hatred in his eyes.
He had raised his paw for the fatal blow, when we heard a loud bang, followed by yelling, hissing, and more banging. He looked towards the door, looked back at me, growled, and left.

I was aching all over, but I managed to crawl over to Amber.
"Thanks," she said.
I merely smiled and looked at her wound. The scratch didn't look too bad, considering that Macavity doesn't have a history of showing mercy.
We sat in silence, except for the whimpers of pain from Amber and myself.
Alyssa broke the silence. "What d'you suppose is going on out there?"
"It sounds like they're fighting." I said.
We sat in silence again for a while.

Suddenly, there were voices at the door.
We panicked, thinking that henchrats were coming for us.
We scrunched up into a corner, hoping that they either wouldn't spot us or wouldn't be able to get us apart. We listened as they tried to get the door open.
They argued for a minute about whose fault it was that they couldn't get the door open. I realized that one of the voices had a cockney accent.

"Mungo, I thought you said that you were a master at breaking and entering!"
"Oi am! Mac's place is 'igh securi'y, tha's all!"
Charity's face broke into a huge grin.
"It's Mungojerrie!!!" she whispered with glee.
"Oh, for crying out loud! Let me do it!"
"Misto, 'e's prolly magic-proofed it!"
I got excited. "And Mistoffelees!"
Misto and Mungo argued for a few minutes, then Misto said he was gonna try magic anyway. We heard a loud bang, Misto yelling, and Mungo laughing.
"Tol' ya, mate!"
We giggled.
"Are you sure that this is where they are?" "This is where 'e takes all of 'em. 'E kept Demeter 'ere."
"As long as you're sure."
"Oi am."
There was alot of clicking, grunting, and "Hurry up, Mungo!"
We waited very impatiently, listening intently to anything they might say.
Mungo and Misto were joined by some-one whose voice sounded very familiar.
"How's it coming?"
"Slowly."
"Oh come on, it's not tha' bad! It's comin' along, Munku."
Amber's eyes got wide. "It's Munkustrap!"
There was more clicking and grunting, until the door finally gave way.

I have never been so relieves to see anyone as much I was when I saw Misto, Mungo, and Munku.
I have also never felt anything like I did when I saw Misto. Wow!
We all stared at each other for a minute. Then Amber's legs gave out and she fainted.
Munku immediatly came and gently picked her up and motioned for us to follow him.
