In Keeping With My Thoughts

What does it mean
To grow in the Lord,
To conform and reform,
To press towards the mark?
What is the high calling?
I feel like I'm falling,
Not able to grasp it,
Asking "Why, what if..."
Unable to rest in,
Grow in, progress in
The knowledge,
The teachings of the Word.
My faith is fleeting;
My trust is so flimsy,
Yet my heart is ready
To say "Here am I!"
I need to run, to kneel
At the cross, and feel
The love that poured down,
To see the crown
Of thorns that pressed
Upon his brow.
Then tears I'll shed.
He rose from the dead!
Now I can be brave
Because of the grave
That was left hollow and cold;
Yes I'll be brave and bold.
Why is my faith fleeting
And my trust weak?
Because I rely on my strength
Instead of relying on His.
This poem is in keeping
With my thoughts
And feelings, though odd
They are all mine.
My sinful heart will doubt,
My weak flesh will pout.
Will I give in? Yes.
But will God give up? No.

Very well written Damaris Ann! It may seem to others like a jumble of hard to follow thoughts, but I think you captured that sense of confusion and difficulty in growing in the faith. I too have many of those moments! This poem really spoke to me! No one is perfect and thank God that He never gives up on us! He delights when we desire to grow closer and He will indeed increase our faith, though not always in the ways we expect! Continue to fight the good fight and keep writing those poems ;) God Bless!
