Bars of Youth

Submitted by The Brit on Mon, 12/22/2008 - 04:38

To be so young.
To be entramped.
To be a strangled sappling.
I feel a cage;
Bars of youth.
How can I break away.

When I was young
The cage was big.
I did not mind cold bars.
But, now I feel
Restraining chains.
How can I break away.

I'm sure that when,
I've grown away.
I'll miss the quiet cage.
But now, all I ask is this,
How can I break away

This was really good! The best part was "I'm sure that when I've grown away I'll miss the quiet cage..." How true! Granted, I'm only 20, but I'm already starting to miss the quietness of being a 'little girl'. You must have put a lot of thought into this.

Me: He can't. He's in the wilderness.
Brother: Then make it a four-wheel-drive motorcycle!

I love this poem, Brit! I can totally identify with what you're saying.

Mary, actually, I wrote this completely out of the blue, and it only took about ten minutes.

Thanks OFG!

Seriously? I don't think I've ever written even a grocery list in 10 minutes, let alone a poem! Great job anyway : )
