A question of Birds
Why do birds fly?
Is it to be off the ground or in the sky?
Do they want to be in the air?
Or do they have feathers 'cause God ran out of hair?
I guess it’s just because they can,
And so it has been since life began.
Turtles
Turtles are funny things.
They don’t have fins, they don’t have wings.
They just have legs with a shell to match
And nails with which to latch.
I sometimes wonder why it is,
He carries around that shell of his.
A grounded Fish
I once knew fish
Who had a wish
To be with the birds in the air
But, try as he might
He could not take flight
He could not get up there.
Now, an old grey sage
Who was wizened by age
Told the fish, that he just couldn’t fly
But he still tried at flight
Through day and though night
Saying, “ I’ll try, and I’ll try, and I’ll try.”
Note: In the first poem, the fifth line was supposed to be part of the fourth line, but because of technical difficulties (and a limited knowledge of the computer) it has become the fifth line.
