The harbor winds played foreign tunes to those which I was used to,
Whispering songs that to me were unknown, about places they had passed through.
Lightly they swept across the land with weathered fingers and gentle hands
Bringing tales of sorrow and joy, along with rain now and again.
I remember they smelt of evergreens and something like peppermint
And I often imagined from where they had come, and where they were going next,
Such mystery they carried in their abrasive, gentle grasp,
They disturbed the land with secrets, but I never dared to ask.
With fluid grace they danced upon the surface of the earth
Leaving nothing behind unchanged and leaving no blade of grass unstirred.
Like tongues of cool fire, they played against my skin
And I swear I felt the things they’d touched in the places they had been,
But one day they blew gently to the dock a little ship,
And from that day on I never felt the harbor winds again.
I recently realized that I've been slipping into the habit of posting on this site every couple of months, and that is completely unacceptable!
So, I'm going to try my very best to start posting more regularly. In case you were wondering, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I'm still here, just in an I'm-not-really-here kind of way =)

I don't know, it didn't feel
I don't know, it didn't feel to me that you've been gone so long. But then, I've been following your blog.
I like this alot. It's very descriptive and lovely. But I'm wondering a bit about the ending.

This was beautiful! It flowed so nicely, and yet I was still thinking about hte words. It was beautiful (I already said that, didn't I?). Very good.

I Agree
I love how this poem flows. The imagery is just wonderful - and the ending holds a mystery. It makes me think of people who immigrated to our country in the "olden days" - getting on a ship in a little harbor somewhere and crossing the ocean to a whole new world...
=)
Thanks for the comments everyone, they made me feel like I actually belong on this site again. I'm glad you all liked it =)
About the ending, I wanted it to be kind of a mystery and leave it open for others to divine their own meaning from it, but what I imagined myself was that whatever the ship brought, something or someone, distracted the person away from what he really loved, and he never went back again.
That's just me though, it can be taken in any way you like =)
That makes sense
The ending makes sense. I have to say I liked this alot :D Your poems are really good....Did you publish them yet?

Thanks =)
I haven't published any yet, I've never really thought about it, and honestly I'm not even sure how to go about doing that. It's certainly an intriguing idea, though...

Oh that's so pretty. I wish I could write good poetry. Prose is a stronger point for me.
