Dear Son

Dear son,

You are only a year old, but I know who you are. You are kind, brave, sweet, caring, strong, and fun. Throughout your life, you may grow tired and unsure of what to do. In those times, believe in who you are.

You may say something mean to someone. You may break a heart, or a promise. You might abuse a person. In those moments, you are not being yourself. Remember that you are kind. Go to that person, apologize for forgetting yourself, and do what you can to make it right.

Sometimes, things are hard and scary. You could be tempted to give up or run away. Believe in who you are, Grayson. You are strong and brave. If you gave up and ran away before you remembered yourself, try again. It can be even scarier the second time, but I believe in you even when you don't.

Never forget to care about people. It will be easy to be sweet and kind that way. Look at people and think of how every person is the same. We all have the same feelings and fears. We all could be in the bad spot you see someone else in.

I will always believe in you.

Wanted you to know I just used one of your thoughts in a grad school application, hahaha -- "Look at people and think of how ever person is the same. We all have the same feelings and fears." I was trying to think how to express WHY I write... and then I remembered that you said this (it had stuck with me). Thank you for passing along this thought! x

Thank you guys for liking my little letter! I love my little guy so much and am constantly thinking about the man he will be.
And Sarah Bethany....OMG REALLY?! Ahhh! That's so cool!
