The Failed Child

In the beginning of my life
There was a dimpled little girl
And she knew for sure
That she would conquer the world

She would be magnificent, brave
A poet, a hero, a queen, a king!
Spectacular, lovely, madly intelligent
A personality with 9-volt zing

I hate to end the good part here
But this girl did the growing up thing
And though she said she would always stay young
She lost her passion and dreams

She worked every day, and drank most nights
And broke the best part of her heart.
In her 21st year, she sat down and cried
And wondered if she could restart.

The things she wanted to be
The actress, the artist, the brilliant math teacher
She lost, because she didn't know
The best part of her was the dreamer.

This is sad, but so relatable. I find myself reflecting on dreams I used to have often.
