Distance

Far from being fathomless
I wouldn't hazard a second guess
at the truest nature,
yours or mine,
I've seldom seen the two align.

Still nothing more could we ask
than to take ourselves to task,
for whatever result,
whether good or bad,
we still run far and fast.

To distant lands we scatter,
forget the former, on the latter!
There's nothing lovely,
no beauty keen,
that could make the distance matter.

Far from standing on the porch,
I really couldn't say
how many years I've been away.
There's a certain charm in coming home,
but not in coming home to stay.

I liked the way you put the rhymes together, and I can't seem to pick which part was my favorite, I savored every bit. Going back now to read it again...

I agree with the above comments! The last line was amazing, had never thought so before. Great write

All of your writings are excellent-I hope that you will post more often!! :)

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! I do mean to post more, but I always seem to say that after being away for nearly a year, and then I follow it up with another year of absence. I appear to be making an unintentional habit of it. But hopefully this time I really will post more :)

Somehow I ended up reading this in the context of different worlds (I think it was your lovely profile picture that did it; reminded me of Lucy in the wardrobe), and I can definitely imagine this written in a page of Alice Kingsleigh's notebook. Do try to write more; we miss you!
