*POP!* A car suddenly appeared, but that was all. It was sort of fuzzy, but I could still make out that it was a sleek, shiny, red Chevrolet Corvair. It looked like it was a real car smacked down onto a velvet black backdrop. There were a few people in the car, and the wheels were spinning on nothing. *POP!* A road suddenly appeared below the car, and the tires came down to rest on it, and it looked like the car was actually going somewhere. *POP!* Now I could see mountains behind the car. They looked like the Sedona Red Rocks. I think they were. *POP!* Now there was a big, bright, far-away blue backdrop behind the rocks. *POP!* Big, fluffy white clouds, birds, airplanes and helicopters appeared in the big blue sky. *POP!* More roads, more cars, trees and dirt beneath and next to the road appeared. It looked like a real place now.
I started floating towards the red car. I somehow slipped into the car, and there was my family.
“Where are we going?” I asked my dad.
“Oh, we’re just taking a drive,” he answered. So, we continued to drive, and drive, and drive… Finally, we stopped. We were in front of a huge Red Rock mountain. When we got out of the car, I noticed that there was a big hole in the rock.
Once we were in side the cave, we saw that the rock walls were a dark red, and there was a circular couch lining the walls. The couch had big, squishy pink cushions on it, and the cushions had pink, purple and red throw pillows all over it, all in different shapes and sizes. In the middle of the room there was a fireplace. The center of the ceiling was adorned with a huge chandelier with a big purple diamond hanging on the bottom of it, with many more purple diamonds hanging all over it.
The décor of the room was made of strange colors to be put together, it’s true; pink, purple and red don’t usually go together, but they made the room feel like it was the inside of a genie’s bottle or lamp, it was very fascinating.
In the far right side of the cave, there was a hallway. When we walked through, we found ourselves in a kitchen… a plain, ordinary kitchen; nothing like the cave. It had blue and yellow wall-paper, and little blue and yellow canisters; the whole kitchen was blue and yellow. There were boxes and boxes of odd and ends, lots of food, and occasionally some tools and trinkets.
“What is all this stuff for?” I asked my dad.
“There are some blind old ladies who come here to get groceries and other things, because they can’t go to the store, because, well… you get the picture,” answered Dad. And he was right. Right after he answered my question, two old ladies came in with dark glasses and canes. They had curly white hair, and they started tap-tapping this, and tap-tapping that, putting bananas underneath their arms, and taking this and taking that. They didn’t mind us; they just went about their business.
Then my sister said,
“Oh, I’ll go do it for you,” and she left. I guess I must have missed something, but anyway, I said I would go too. We went outside, and sort of sat down on imaginary seats, which was actually thin air. So after we got situated on our air-seats, we stuck out our arms, made rumbling noises and set off down the windy road. There were people standing on the side of the road, and they were just staring at us. My brother came running after us, but he wasn’t in an air-car, he was just running.
“Budgy!!! Get out of the road! You’ll be squashed!” I yelled, and then the bystanders looked really disturbed… really, really disturbed.
****
“Whoa! I really need to write that dream down…” I said after I wiped my eyes and sat up in the darkness… “After I wake up tomorrow morning…” I had procrastinated again…
THE END
