No Matter How Mundane

"The houses all look the same." I said;
all the perfect lawns were brown with lack of rain.
Even the trees in the lane were identical,
each limb and leaf equally symmetrical.
He looked at me and smiled grimly.
"You'll get used to it." he said quite simply.
Duplicate rows of houses too aloof to be called homes,
duplicate faces, too distant to get to know.
Yet the summer waxed and waned
and nights did come can go, but still they looked the same.
I pleaded, "Say anything, no matter how mundane."
He said, "Those clouds look an awful lot like rain."

I'm not really sure what to think about this...I do like it though. The end made me smile. :)

This was great! Few little typos in case you want to fix them: line 10: come instead of some, and line 13: an instead of and. I really enjoyed reading this though, partcularly lines 2-4 and the last two lines were a lovely finish to the piece.

This was simple and satisfying.... :D

I loved this. A lot. I'm not exactly sure why, but there was just something about it in its simplicity that I want to read over and over again. As if it's saying something I can't quite put my finger on.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I really appreciate them! You have no idea how scared I was to post this, since I've been away for such a long time. I'm really glad you guys liked it.

And thanks Christa, I fixed the typos :)

It hasn't been the same around here without you.  I hope you keep posting.

If life is as mundane as described in your poem, writing something and posting it should liven it up.

You're back!! :D

I love this poem...it has a different sort of feel to it that I really like.
