It sounds down through the ages, Across the rolling tide. Through our history’s pages, Life’s haunting wild ride. We listen to thy song, Bittersweet and oh so long. Echoing in thy head And sounding in they heart. With it comes the scream of lead; The somber creak o’ the cart. Yes, many will fall With they battle call. Battered and bruised in the fields they lay And thickening smoke hung in the air. How long will it last, this endless day? How much of the pain can we bear? Long will thy church bells peal and toll For those who sleep on thy grassy knoll. Sounding, sounding All over again. Pounding, pounding Thy battle refrain. Never a moment do you pause, In sounding loudly thy battle cause. Long will thy cry echo down In the silent field And the shady town. Always thy banner will thee yield In the hearts of all Who hear thy call. Let us be always willing To answer thy echoing song. As it called the farmer tilling And the woods men with arms so strong. The time may come when we too Will answer thy call and bid each other adieu.

I don't think it's sad,
I don't think it's sad, particularly, just very sobering. I like the third stanza the best...the wording and all that.
Thank you, my dear :) What do
Thank you, my dear :) What do you think of the last stanza -- I added it spur of the moment and I'm sure if I really like it.
