Lalaith
**********
I wrote this in just a few minutes. It is from The Children of Hurin. Lalaith was the younger sister of Turin, and her real name was Urwen.
***********************

Treading softly, treading lightly
Danced a maiden young and sprightly.
Lalaith she was called, Laughter in our tongue:
Upon the grass she twirled and sung.
But though fair as an elven lass she was,
Her life was not as long:
For the Evil Breath cut short the laughter and the song.
Lalaith! Lalaith! Laughter in this house is ended!
And sorrow has begun which shall never be amended!

I love Children of Hurin... and Lalaith is my favorite character. :)
You captured her story very well. :)

Very sad story...I like your poem, though. But since I've read the whole story, I think that of the three children of Hurin--Urwen, Nienor and Turin--Urwen's story is actually the least tragic...I mean, the other two committed suicide...
