The Tale of a Mother and Daughter

Submitted by Kendra on Wed, 03/25/2009 - 22:55

Go to the telegram office, my Chum,
And ask this lady’s daughter to come.

Tell her that her mum’s temperature is really below,
So that the poor dear girl will know.

When the girl received the message in jade,
After she read it, she knelt down and prayed.

She made the decision to go back,
And boarded the train without even a snack.

Coming off the train, even seeing her childhood place,
Didn’t bring one tiny smile to her face.

The thought that was the poor girl’s main,
Was hoping she hadn’t come in vain.

Over her mother she quietly bent,
And to her cheek a kiss she sent.

Then she sat down and cried,
For she thought her mother had died.

Then she saw, ever so slowly, her mother arise,
And say, “You are the greatest surprise!”
