A Camping Adventure

Once upon a time (it was around the first of August) a group of adventurous campers, and their pets, set out on a short weekend excursion. They packed up their trailer with all the necessary food supplies- popcorn, steak, Twinkies, diet Dr. Pepper- and journeyed down the interstate to the deep, dark forests of Northern Arizona.
On one of the very fine days that they were there, one of the campers had the brilliant idea of going on a short excursion to search for some beautiful scenery. SO they began bumping down some very rugged terrain on their very un-environmentally friendly four wheeled machines. At length they reached a clearing in the woods; it seemed set apart from the world with its tree filled borders and luscious green grass that was gently waving in the breeze. It was there that they rested; sitting in the stillness with the grass and the flowers all around and the cloudless shy overhead…well, almost cloudless.
While they sat reclining, enjoying the landscape, one of the more observant adventurers noticed something- the small, seemingly harmless clouds were building. Puff by puff they grew until they were dark and angry. With the sun gone and the clouds turning sullen, the adventurers decided that it might be best if they started on their way.
Over the rocks and the ruts they bumped, with the sky growing blacker and blacker every minute. Onward and onward they raced, picking up speed at every corner, running form the growing tempest.
The drops began to fall lightly at first, and they believed they might make it. But alas, the rain began to pelt harder, hitting their faces, their bodies, their brand-new Nike shoes. Up ahead, one of the riders paused, sweeping toward him was something that chilled him to the done, not to mention it soaked him. Racing toward them was a curtain of water, so high, he could not see above it; so thick, he could not see beyond it. He turned to face his fellow companions, his heart grew heavy yet he knew what he had to do, “SAVE YOURSELVES!” he yelled over the crashing of the thunder claps.
The first person to pass him looked at him with awe and amazement, “How could this man stand so staunchly in the face of such wetness?” she wondered. But she obeyed his command and broke through the wall.
Instantly doused, she lifted a hand, trying to shield her eyes from the fury of the storm; fighting the blindness, she pushed on undaunted through the rain and the wind. Onward the adventures travailed, with the water steaming from their eyes, their hair, the ends of their noses; hoping to reach safety, and the end of this extremely melodramatic tale.
Suddenly, there it was; appearing through the downpour; becoming a beacon of hope for all who treaded the muddy lane and struggled through the storm. The long white trailer was a sanctuary for those weary and wet adventurers.
Fifty yards more; now they were there; all made a dash for safety; breath came in gasps now that the ordeal was over. Everyone had made it, all safe and soaked. Their adventure was over, the rain slowed and stopped. They looked at each other’s mud spattered faces and felt the emotions of joy, laughter, happiness, relief and warmth flow to the top. They sat under the awning, watching the rainbow appear and the sun come out and they realized the story had finally reached its end.

He he he. So is this what I'm to expect when we go camping with you? Wow! I can really tell that you've been reading Lemony Snicket. The only time I can remember being as wet as I pictured you being, was when I drove in a golf cart in the rain. But some how I don't think that's quite the same.

And so in parting, I leave you with another hee hee hee.

Oh Keri T, don't say that!!!! I really, really, do like your things. Writing used to be a punishment for me until I discovered APRICOT PIE:):):)

Writing a punishment? never! (unless of course your mom makes you write a 300 word essay on why you should treat your little sister nicely...) Apricot pie is awsome. Trust me though, my writing was bad but i have looked back at it and revised a lot of what I've written. I find that if I write in first person it's a lot better than when in third.
