After a long drive, we roll down the windows;
The sea is still a mile or so away but its winsome,
Chilled, salty smell
Gives the air a distinct
Sense of adventure. When it finally enters view,
It is frolicking on the beach like a colt,
Splashing and rolling,
Throwing itself around
The rocks.
All you want
To do
Is get
Your feet a little
Wet
But it draws you in engulfs you
In a heavy wall of water,
Collapsing at your feet
In the oozing sand.
You will, inevitably, get some sea water
In your mouth,
And the shock of it is revolting, but
There is nothing like fighting those waves,
Roaring,
Echoed by the wind,
Accentuated by the gulls.
A day at the beach is a blend of thrill
And serenity
Contented laughter
And surprise.

Very Lovely!
Very Lovely Hannah! The imagery is great, and you captured all of the good and sometimes unpleasant moments of being at the sea. (I can sympathize with getting knocked over by waves and getting seawater in the mouth!) This poem takes me back to my beach-side vacations. What a lovely thing to be thinking about on a day like today!

Your imagery is always so vibrant and vivid! I had everything pictured in my head, and the exact taste of sand and saltwater in my mouth.
