Clumsy in New York City!

I pull on my coat and my scarf underneath.

It's another frosty day in New York City.

I stop at a crowded Starbucks and buy a coffee.  I take a sip

Not quite ready to brave the weather.  The beverage

Warms my insides and leaves me feeling chirpy.

I step outside and almost fall on a thick piece of ice.

I look up hopelessly as a couple stares at me.

I pull myself together with dignity and pride

For I almost fell on my behind!

It feels like a good day to go for a walk,

I try to ignore the ice that clings to the rocks.

I thankfully get to the park in one piece and all

And laugh at myself as I take another step and fall!

So much for not being clumsy. I limp over to a nearby bench

Rubbing my hip trying to subdue the pain.

I feel like I am about to cry but keep it together,

As a little girl comes up and sits close by me.

What happened next warmed me more than me coffee,

She leaned in and gave me a big hug saying she saw me fall and was sorry.

After falling one time and bruising my hip I never felt better

On that freshly painted bench!
